🔬What Is Epithalon
Epithalon (also known as Epitalon or Epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed by Russian gerontologist Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Based on the natural pineal gland peptide Epithalamin, Epithalon is one of the most extensively researched anti-aging peptides, with over 100 published studies spanning three decades. Its primary mechanism involves activation of telomerase – the enzyme responsible for rebuilding telomeres, the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division. A landmark 2003 study published in Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine demonstrated that Epithalon increased telomere length in human somatic cells by activating telomerase expression. Additionally, it stimulates melatonin production from the pineal gland, regulating circadian rhythm and sleep architecture, and has shown antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties.
📊Clinical Studies & Results
Epithalon has been studied for over 35 years by Prof. Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues, with multiple clinical publications:
- â–ŞActivated telomerase and increased telomere length in human fetal fibroblasts and neonatal cells (Khavinson et al., Bull Exp Biol Med, 2003; PMID: 14582617)
- â–Ş15-year clinical study in elderly patients showed 28% reduction in cardiovascular mortality and restored melatonin secretion (Khavinson & Morozov, Bull Exp Biol Med, 2003; PMID: 12937682)
- â–ŞRestored evening melatonin peak in elderly primates and improved circadian rhythm architecture (Khavinson et al., Neuro Endocrinol Lett, 2001; PMID: 11335874)
- ▪Geroprotective effects in 6-year follow-up — 1.8x lower all-cause mortality in treated group (Anisimov et al., Biogerontology, 2011; PMID: 21191670)
- â–ŞActivated peptide bioregulation of aging through epigenetic mechanisms in pinealocyte cultures (Khavinson et al., Advances in Gerontology, 2012)
Epithalon is uniquely positioned among anti-aging peptides due to its direct telomerase activation, supported by decades of longitudinal clinical data — a rarity in peptide research.
